When a 56-year-old single mother began feeling ill early in October, she had no idea her life was about to change so suddenly. On October 5, she went to the hospital, and doctors quickly discovered she was having a heart attack. Two arteries were blocked, requiring both a stent and a balloon procedure to restore her heart’s function.
Recovery has been slow but steady. Yet as the neighbor regains her strength, new challenges have emerged. She has been unable to work since her hospitalization and, like many hardworking people, found herself caught in a waiting period before she could apply for medical leave.
Although her paychecks have halted, the bills have not. November rent is due. Her daughter, 26, who recently moved back home while attending school full-time and working part-time, helps as much as she can, but their small household budget is stretched thin. The neighbor also has two grown sons who live out of state, and her elderly mother who may be able to assist a little, but it won’t be enough to cover all the expenses.
She has been doing everything she can to seek help from other agencies.
SVdP was able to contribute toward the rent, and the neighbor came up with the rest. This case shows that sudden illness or medical emergency can quickly deplete savings and create overwhelming stress. Hope can be restored when caring hearts respond.
Your gift to St. Vincent de Paul brings that hope. You help neighbors keep their homes, heal with dignity, and feel God’s love in their time of need.
