For one Neighbor nearing the completion of her master’s degree, the final term brought a difficult financial challenge. She didn’t have enough money to cover her tuition and her October rent.
An international student pursuing a degree in health care administration, our Neighbor works in an administrative position at a health care facility and supports herself. She lives alone, and both of her parents are deceased. She hopes to use her education in the United States after graduation.
With tuition due and concerns about how an interruption in her studies could affect her ability to remain here, she reached out to several churches for assistance. She told us that St. Vincent de Paul was the only one to return her call.
During a telephone conversation, our volunteers learned that she had already set aside most of her rent but needed help closing the gap. Our conference approved assistance toward her October rent, allowing her to direct more of her own earnings toward her final term’s tuition.
Sometimes a Neighbor needs a helping hand at a critical moment.
