In today’s Gospel, Jesus says: “My food is to do the will of the one who sent me and to finish his work.” Volunteers at St. Vincent de Paul help do the work of Our Lord by providing hope, compassion, referrals and short-term financial help for families.
One neighbor who reached out to SVdP is a 30-year-old woman who recently became the legal guardian of her four-year-old niece who is severely disabled. The woman had to quit her job to take care of her niece and used up all of her savings in her 401k to pay for rent. She is waiting to hear about some jobs that will enable her to work while caring for her niece. Meanwhile, she was served an eviction notice.
Volunteers are providing moral support and helping her seek assistance.
SVdP is a lay Catholic organization that aspires to live the gospel message by serving Christ in the poor with love, respect, justice, hope and joy, and by working to shape a more just and compassionate society.
